Cantucci
Cantucci or cantuccini with almonds are part of the Tuscan confectionery tradition that sees them as the perfect end to a meal in combination with Vin Santo.
This typical Tuscan biscuit was born in the latter part of the Middle Ages and its word seems to derive from 'Cantellus' which means 'Part': in ancient times they represented the final part of the sweet string that bakers prepared for the noblest families and left to the peasants. In addition to their usual function as a biscuit, today they are typically served with Vin Santo: it is customary to soak the biscuit inside a glass of wine in order to soften it and make it a little sweeter.
